Psychiatric Medication Management in Chicago

Psychiatric medication can be an important part of treatment for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other behavioral-health concerns.

Effective medication management involves more than writing a prescription. It includes understanding your symptoms and health history, reviewing current medications, monitoring response and side effects, and adjusting treatment when appropriate. Renovare Chicago provides individualized psychiatric medication management through office and eligible telehealth appointments.

When to consider medication management

Medication management may be helpful if you are:

  • Considering psychiatric medication for the first time
  • Already taking medication and need ongoing follow-up
  • Experiencing difficult side effects
  • Unsure whether your current medication is helping
  • Returning to treatment after stopping medication
  • Considering a medication change
  • Taking several medications and concerned about interactions
  • Transferring psychiatric medication care from another provider

People can respond differently to the same psychiatric medication. Finding an appropriate treatment may require monitoring and adjustments over time. (National Institute of Mental Health)

How it works

Medication management may include

Starting or Adjusting Medication

Medication may be started, changed, or adjusted when clinically appropriate based on symptoms, history, response, and safety.

Monitoring & follow-up

Follow-up visits help evaluate symptom improvement, side effects, adherence, and whether treatment should continue or change.

Additional testing & support

Laboratory monitoring, GeneSight® testing, psychotherapy, or coordination with another provider may be recommended when appropriate.

GeneSight® and medication decisions

For selected patients, GeneSight pharmacogenomic testing may provide additional information about certain psychiatric medications.

GeneSight does not identify one guaranteed best medication and does not replace clinical evaluation.

Results are considered alongside your diagnosis, symptoms, medication history, side effects, medical conditions, and other clinical factors.

Medication management through telehealth

Many psychiatric medication follow-up appointments may be appropriate for secure telehealth.

Virtual visits may be used to review symptoms, side effects, treatment response, laboratory results, and medication plans.

Patients must be physically located in Illinois during a Renovare telehealth appointment.

An in-person visit may be recommended when physical assessment, reliable vital signs, testing, or medication-safety requirements make virtual care insufficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychiatric medication management?

It is the evaluation, prescribing, and ongoing monitoring of medications used as part of behavioral-health treatment.

Will I receive medication at my first appointment?

Not necessarily. Medication is prescribed only when clinically appropriate after an adequate evaluation.

Can Renovare continue medication prescribed by another provider?

Possibly. Your provider will independently review your history and determine whether the existing treatment remains appropriate.

Does Renovare prescribe controlled medications?

Controlled medications may be considered when clinically appropriate and legally permitted. A specific medication is never guaranteed.

Can medication-management appointments be completed through telehealth?

Many follow-up visits may be virtual when appropriate. Some medications or clinical situations may require an in-person assessment.

Should I stop medication if it is not helping?

Do not stop psychiatric medication on your own. Some medications require gradual reduction, so discuss concerns with your treating clinician first. (National Institute of Mental Health)
