SPRAVATO® Treatment in Chicago for Treatment-Resistant Depression

When depression has not improved enough with previous antidepressant treatment, it may be appropriate to consider another treatment approach.

Renovare Chicago evaluates eligible adults for SPRAVATO® (esketamine) treatment. SPRAVATO is an FDA-approved nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression and may be used by itself or together with an oral antidepressant for that indication. (FDA Access Data) SPRAVATO® treatment takes place under healthcare-provider supervision and requires monitoring afterward. It is not a medication patients take home for unsupervised use. Who it’s for

When to consider SPRAVATO®

SPRAVATO may be worth discussing when an adult continues to experience significant depression despite adequate antidepressant treatment.

In the FDA clinical program for treatment-resistant depression, patients had not responded adequately to at least two antidepressants of adequate dose and duration during the current depressive episode. (FDA Access Data)

Renovare may review your current symptoms, previous medications, treatment response, side effects, medical and psychiatric history, blood pressure, substance-use history, and other safety factors before determining whether SPRAVATO should be considered.

Not everyone with persistent depression is an appropriate candidate.

How Renovare Evaluates SPRAVATO® Eligibility

Treatment begins with a clinical evaluation rather than immediately scheduling a medication session.

Your provider reviews your depression history, previous antidepressant treatment, current medications, relevant medical conditions, and factors that could affect treatment safety.

SPRAVATO has specific contraindications and warnings, including concerns involving certain vascular conditions, previous intracerebral hemorrhage, blood-pressure increases, sedation, dissociation, respiratory depression, and abuse or misuse potential. (FDA Access Data)

Additional records or medical evaluation may be requested when needed.

How it works

Treatment options

Eligibility evaluation

We review your depression history, previous treatments, medical factors, and whether SPRAVATO® may be appropriate.

Supervised treatment sessions

You administer the prescribed nasal spray under direct healthcare-provider supervision.

Ongoing Response Monitoring

Your provider evaluates benefit, tolerability, and whether treatment frequency should continue or change.

GeneSight® and medication decisions

For selected patients, GeneSight pharmacogenomic testing may provide additional information about certain psychiatric medications.

GeneSight does not identify one guaranteed best medication and does not replace clinical evaluation.

Results are considered alongside your diagnosis, symptoms, medication history, side effects, medical conditions, and other clinical factors.

Medication management through telehealth

Many psychiatric medication follow-up appointments may be appropriate for secure telehealth.

Virtual visits may be used to review symptoms, side effects, treatment response, laboratory results, and medication plans.

Patients must be physically located in Illinois during a Renovare telehealth appointment.

An in-person visit may be recommended when physical assessment, reliable vital signs, testing, or medication-safety requirements make virtual care insufficient.
